Under The Clouds: Chapter 2 Concluded
How long has it been since my last post …? Time flies, and I feel like so much has changed this past year but at the same time it doesn’t seem like that I have made a significant stride in any aspect of my life. That being said, the chapter 2 of my neverending drawing progress of Under The Clouds is finally finished.
The chapter 2 consists of 10 pictures, showcasing a school bus or buses traveling intercity to a school. It was originally planned for 4 pictures to show only what I thought would suffice in delivering a motion. Then, decided to add 3 more toward the end to show the protagonist getting off the bus. Then, realized 4 pictures might not deliver a smooth continuous motion, so added 3 more inbetween what was already made.
It is a short chapter and the purpose of the chapter is to show the world design of the cityscape in as much details as possible. Through chapter 2, I want to show the bustling of the city traffic…
Pedestrians sauntering beneath it …
A city resident enjoying a cup of coffee across it …
Etc. and etc.
Also, there has been a major change in the style of how I’d like to portray characters and the overall look of my graphic novel as well as clothing designs.
I have decided to drop those big, doe eyes and stay more true to how I like to approach drawing characters in general. The characters above, supposedly children, ended up looking a little older than the actual age range that I have assigned to them. I am fine with the change. It doesn’t seem to pose a big issue in delivering the story.
To be honest, I wanted to draw more because I still don’t think they are enough to show a smooth motion nor the intricacy of the city life. Perhaps, I can reserve them for a later part of the graphic novel. Or I can come back and add more. But most importantly …
It is time to move on to Chapter 3.
The above is a series of thumbnails that I did based on the script brainstorming the first half of chapter 3. Although there are so much more drawings to do but since it all occurs in a classroom that avoids constant changes in environments and actors, unlike chapter 2, I think I can do chapter 3 a little faster.
I guess that’s all for the post. Before digging into chapter 3, I’ll have to revisit Blender to work out composition. I hope and really hope that I will make a post this year concluding chapter 3 triumphally celebrating a step forward in the right direction.
Until then, my friends, I wish you a wonderful year and hope those drawings piqued your interests enough to keep following.
Thank you for reading and see you next time.
